Broadcast and Information Technology (IT) Support Technician

Information Technology

  • Information management skills with Microsoft Active Directory management (Windows Server 2012).
  • General network administration.
  • Workstation support (Windows 7/8.1)
  • Experience with remote support platforms (LogMeIn or similar product).
  • Google Apps administration.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to staff for use of network, internet, desktop applications, file storage, e-mail access and inter-office data access.
  • Train new staff members in proper operations and policies about use of DC communications systems.
  • Gain proficiency on all in-house, third party and hosted software and assist users with daily operations; Offline caption editing (CPC) software and Schedule Source software including basic knowledge of traffic management.
  • Assist in maintaining Internet connectivity in Grand Rapids office.
  • Assist in administering Domain Controller, e-mail, and FTP server access accounts under the direction of the Director of Technology
  • Maintain documentation about any network service problems that occur as well as data and telephone network configurations in the Grand Rapids, Michigan office.
  • Develop and maintain training documentation for DC employees on accessing data systems.
  • Monitor servers in GR for performance problems, file storage usage and access.
  • Provide support to users at GR as well as remote offices to access DC data and e-mail systems as required.

Broadcast Engineering Support

  • Evaluate and isolate any problems with video production equipment in offline captioning department, repairing as much as possible.
  • Provide direct engineering support for client television stations and networks to trouble shoot and resolve connectivity and interface problems.
  • Be a “backup” source of knowledge about all DC technical operations in conjunction with Director of Technology.
  • Become familiar with steno software platforms (Eclipse / Case Catalyst) to assist in troubleshooting issues in a real-time environment.
  • Participate in online educational courses related to broadcast engineering.
  • Maintain documentation about changes and configurations of video production equipment.


• The position and our related business require 90% on-site work.
• Second shift and weekend work required: 2:00 to 10:00 PM Eastern Time, Wednesday through Sunday.
• Primary on-call operations support as well as for hardware failure.
• Perform backup operations on Grand Rapids office at the direction of the Director of Technology.
• Configure local workstations for network access, install and upgrade software.

Other Duties

  • Coordinate data, telephone, and electrical utility contractors’ access to Grand Rapids, Michigan office and be a liaison with those contractors as required.
  • Work with Customer Support Manager and Traffic Manager in maintaining Quality Control System.
  • Emergency termination employees’ and contractors’ access to DC Data Systems at the direction of the direction of the Sr. Vice President of Operations.
  • Be a “backup” source of knowledge about all DC technical operations in conjunction with Director of Technology.
  • Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned.

Reporting Structure

  • Matrixed reporting structure due to the diverse needs of DC.
  • Reports to Director of Technology for IT and Engineering, Director of Operations for operations support.
  • Technology and broadcast direction provided by Directory of Technology.
  • Supports Real-time Operations Manager GR.
